Not sure if I'm really all that surprised that ATT currently offers the Blue V3 Razr (that's original) for $130 as a GoPhone, while the 6126

Motorola charges outrageous prices for phones. My manager has pulled all RAZRs off the displays due to lack of space. Moto is just too overpriced for what it is, except the A1200.

The Go Phone market is weak, but around here, I'm selling a ton of SIM only activations. That's why I love GSM, buy what you want, switch when you want.

@krisguy: Can I go to AT&T and only buy a SIM? I suppose I'd have to agree to a 2-year contract, though. :P

No Contract if you bring your own equipment, just have to pass credit for a regular plan (will be $36 activation fee on first bill) or pay at least $25 of airtime upfront for PAYGO.

@jezlyn you have to ask for it otherwise they will try to get you in a contract if you don't watch it.

@krisguy: That $36 sounds like a rip-off just for getting the right to get post-billed. In Finland activation fees for GSM/WCDMA subscriptions are virtually zero all the time. Broadband is a different matter but even there the activation fee

Its is a rip but standard across all major carriers in us

Activation fees are just another way to get back what the operators "offer you" when you get a "free" phone etc.

Activation and upgrade fees are common for all carriers in the .us and .ca, it's used to help pay for support services according to most carriers.

Activation fees are very common in the States for most anything, around here, the natural gas company requires activation fees and possibly a deposit.

What is the average cost per new customer over there? 200 $US in average?

I want to buy a 6126 with Go Phone service, but they're out of stock online. I haven't checked local stores to see if they have any in stock there. I'll probably do so this weekend... *crossing fingers* I think the 6126 is a pretty neat little phone (well, it's not so little).
