Date Night is a key to any relationship we decided. It's every month for the rest of our lives, whether we can afford it or not. Nothing fancy, just a night out, just the two of us, for dinner and a movie or walking around downtown or whatever.
It's surprising the number of relationships date for ~3 months, then regress into just constant or repeated 'hanging out'.
what is the difference between hanging out and dating? dinner and a movie is what i do with a lot of my lady friends, hell with some of my guy friends too.
Hanging out usually consists of dinner at home, watching a movie at home, or something else. The idea (for us at least) is to get OUT of the house, and go on a date like we would have the first month or two we were dating. Something romantic or fun. Olive Garden and then walking around downtown with coffees or something like a niche restaurant and then putt-putt or a drive-in.
The idea is to make the evening special and focus specifically on the other person. I suppose the difference isn't easily explained, but it became easy for us to stay in all the time, watch TV, or hang out with friends or whatever.
@whatleydude you're a quicker typist than I am. Sounds stupid, but we've been doing it for several months now, and it's made a big difference in the relationship.
with one of my ex, the most romantic thing we did was to stay at home, make peanut-butter-jelly sandwiches, cuddle each other in front of the TV and watch star trek and x-files together. loved those moments more than going out.
My husbands birthday yesterday - my present was a dinner at local top place (I'll pay). And evening ends to too deep discusion about our relationship! (... cutting my wrists with a dull knife...)

It's not about the action dude. It's about the thought behind the action.
It's not me watching a movie with you. It's me making an effort to dedicate some time to you and only you. No matter what we do.

@ricky: it's not stupid. It's a great idea, makes you get out of the routine. That's what breaks a lot of relationships. Enjoy the evening man!
